What net 30 means
“Net” followed by a number means the full amount is due that many days after the invoice date. An invoice dated November 10, 2026 on net 30 is due December 10, 2026. The start date is where disputes come from: the invoice date, the day the client received it, or the delivery date. Print the actual due date next to the terms and nobody has to count. Our guide to invoice payment terms explains when to choose each one.
How each term is counted
| Terms | Due date |
|---|---|
| Due on receipt | The invoice date |
| Net 7, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 | That many calendar days after the invoice date |
| Due EOM | The last day of the month the invoice is dated in |
| Net 15 EOM, net 30 EOM | 15 or 30 days after the end of that month (an invoice dated November 10, 2026 on net 30 EOM is due December 30, 2026) |
| 2/10 net 30 | 2% off if paid within 10 days, otherwise the full amount within 30 days |
EOM wording varies between businesses, so write out what you mean on the invoice.
What an early payment discount costs you
A discount buys you days. On 2/10 net 30, the client keeps 2% for paying 20 days early. As a yearly rate that is 2 ÷ 98 × 365 ÷ 20, about 37.2%; on 1/10 net 30 it is about 18.4%. Offer one when cash today is worth that much to you, and write the discounted amount and the date on the invoice so the client doesn’t have to work them out.
When the due date passes
Send a short reminder on the day and a firmer one a week later; our payment reminder email templates cover each step. In the UK, a business paid late by another business can also claim statutory interest from the day after the due date: the UK late payment interest calculator works it out.

Questions
- What is net 30 from today?
- Add 30 calendar days to today's date. Choose Today as the invoice date in the calculator and it shows the date, the weekday and how far away it is.
- Does net 30 include weekends and holidays?
- Net terms are usually counted in calendar days, so weekends and public holidays count. Some contracts count business days or move a due date that falls on a weekend; if yours does, the contract decides. The calculator counts calendar days and tells you when the date falls on a weekend.
- Does net 30 start from the invoice date or the delivery date?
- Usually from the invoice date, but contracts differ. Print the actual date next to the terms, for example "Net 30, due December 10, 2026", so nobody has to count.
- What does 2/10 net 30 mean?
- The client may take 2% off if they pay within 10 days of the invoice date; otherwise the full amount is due within 30 days. Giving up 2% to be paid 20 days earlier costs you about 37% a year.
- What does net 30 EOM mean?
- Payment is due 30 days after the end of the month in which the invoice is dated. An invoice dated November 10 on net 30 EOM is due December 30. "Due EOM" alone means the last day of the invoice's month. Wording varies, so define it on the invoice.
- How do I work out a due date in Excel or Google Sheets?
- With the invoice date in A2: =A2+30 for net 30, =EOMONTH(A2,0) for due EOM, and =EOMONTH(A2,0)+30 for net 30 EOM. Format the cell as a date.
